Bostonians talk about Aruba like it’s a religion. I married into that family, so I know the lore. I finally made the pilgrimage to the “One Happy Island.” Not just to see the sand, but to stay where the wind blows loudest: The Westerly at Hilton Aruba.
It’s not a separate hotel. It’s a chic, new-build boutique tower nestled inside the massive Hilton Aruba Caribbean Resort & Casino. Think of it as a sanctuary within a resort. And honestly? That distinction matters.
The Vibe: Caribbean Cool Without the Fluff
The Westerly launched recently with 161 rooms. They named it after Aruba’s trade winds, east-to-west and all that. The goal was clear: upscale design, exclusivity, and a feel that’s distinct from the standard Hilton experience.
You get private check-in. No standing in line with the mass market. Swim-up room options. In-room wellness kits. And access to Terrace on 10, an adults-only rooftop hangout.
But you’re not stranded. You still have the full resort engine underneath you. Beach access. The spa. The casino. Multiple dining venues. It’s the best of both worlds: boutique intimacy with resort scale.
Room Details: Where Sleep Actually Matters
My room screamed “Caribbean cool.” We’re talking tropical blues. Sandy neutrals. Natural wood. Patterns that mimic the dunes just outside.
The bed? Ultra-plush. You know that feeling when you collapse and the mattress holds you up? That. Above it, a large padded headboard with built-in USB-C ports. Finally, a place for the phone that isn’t on the nightstand. Reading lights were positioned perfectly too.
Tech was present but not distracting. Large wall TV. Lavazza coffee machine. Minibar stocked enough to last.
The real winners? The amenities.

The bathroom was huge. Lighting that makes you look good. Shower pressure that felt like a massage. Local Aruba Aloe soaps and lotions. Smelled amazing. Not generic hotel chemical stuff.

The Korean beef tacos were the highlight. Entire stay. I’m serious.
For drinks? The roving gin and tonic cart at Sunset Grille. Don’t sleep on it. Custom-made G&Ts on a cart.
Want a view? Shore Club Rooftop. Firepits. Water views. Mingle. Or hit Terrace on 10. Adults-only. Indoor-outdoor space. Ocean views. Wellness programming. Bar. Locally inspired cuisine. Access costs extra for Westerly guests, but it feels like a club. Worth the upgrade if you want sophistication.
Casual options everywhere. Sunset Bar. Oscar’s Market for coffee or grab-and-go. In-room dining. Pool and beach service. You’re covered.
Activities: What to Do When You’re Not Sleeping
The property is huge. I bounced between the main pool complex and the shady beach palapas. You can reserve palapas at the central activities hut.
Check the daily calendar. Kayaking. Fitness classes. Wellness workshops. Rent bikes if you want to explore the perimeter.
There’s a Las Vegas-style casino. Tables. Machines. Lose a little, gain some stress relief at Eforea Spa afterward.
Step outside the gates. Shopping. Eating. Fat Tuesday. Senor Frogs. Standard tourist hubs, sure, but they exist for a reason.
Cultural stuff too. Bubali Bird Sanctuary. The Butterfly Farm. Good for a change of pace from the pool.
Cost: Is The Westerly Worth the Price Tag?
Here’s the financial reality.
Cash rates start at $612 per night. That’s steep.
Hilton Honors members? You can pay with points. But check the fine print. At the time of review, only Premium Room Rewards were listed, starting at 262,000 points per night.
There’s also a $79 resort fee per night. Add that to your calculation.
“Is the premium pricing justified by the experience?”
The design is sharp. The location is unbeatable. The service is attentive. For cash, it’s a premium product. For points, you need a serious stash to justify 262k.
Bottom Line
Why do Bostonians obsess over Aruba?
Soft sand. Unbelievable blue water. Safe from the hurricane belt. Plenty to do.
But my trip was elevated because I stayed at The Westerly at Hilton Aruba.
It’s a chic oasis. Slightly separated from the chaos of the main tower. Fresh design. Spacious rooms. Views that don’t end. I loved the balcony. I loved the sleep. I loved the tacos.
I’m less fond of the points redemption structure. 262k points is a heavy ask. I hope Hilton adds standard room options in the future. Better pricing would bring me back. Until then?
