Chase is finally building that Miami airport lounge.
It’s happening in Concourse E, near gate E7, occupying 13,792 square feet. That’s a lot of floor space for waiting passengers to waste.
You know Concourse E connects to American’s D. You’ll see flights from American, Alaska, BA, Finnair, Iberia, Qatar, and Aer Lingus passing through there. Also Gol. Also Avelo.
How did Chase win the lease? They outbid the competition with something absurd.
A bank vault.
Chase backed their proposal with a vault dwarfing the other offers. Sure, there was a scoring rubric involving other criteria. It didn’t matter. The money gap was huge.
What makes it different
If you already know Chase Sapphire lounges, you know the deal. Accessible for Reserve, Ritz-Carlron, and JPM cardholders. Bring two guests. Priority Pass holders from other banks get one free visit.
But the Miami location? It tries something new.
Airport Dimensions, the partner building it, outlined specific vibes. Not just the usual recycled salad and overcooked steak. They proposed a Cuban Coffee Bar.
They also mentioned a Miami Rum Bar.
From a custom window, guests get rich, sweet coffee. A daily ritual. More than just caffeine, it’s heritage in a cup.
Call it La Ventanita. It mimics those sidewalk kiosks where Miami actually lives. It sits right next to the main dining area.
Standard fare? Still there. The famous Sapphire Burger stays. Noodle bowls. Ropa vieja. The safe stuff is always safe.
The main bar looks decent, standard luxury airport chic. The ‘Horizon Lounge’ section has big windows. Standard again. But the coffee window is the draw.
When opens
Two years. Four months. That was the original timeline.
From award to opening. If Chase had won in February 2020—wait, the proposal assumed an award in 2026 for a 2028 open. That math was clean.
Reality is messy. The actual award happened mid-July. That pushes things back.
Now we’re looking at 2029. Early 2029 if we’re optimistic.
They think a month for airport reviews is enough time. Then twelve weeks for permits. Then thirteen months for construction. Optimistic.
Airport Dimensions and Chase likely did design work before officially getting the key. Lease talks started in March. Smart.
But do not bet your life savings on 2028. Delays happen. Construction crews go on strike. Permits get stuck.
It’s likely 2029. Maybe early. Maybe late. Just assume it’s a while.
The weird details
Building a lounge this big isn’t just about empty space. It’s about shoving people out of the way.
American Airlines had to move offices. 1,451 square feet of their employee breakroom is gone. And their 52 square foot “Sabre Room”? Gone too.
Duty-Free America lost 1,700+ square feet of office space.
Who replaces them? 145 employees.
Mostly hourly workers. The hospitality slogan they’re using? Just “CHASE!” Simple. Brash. Effective.
The space will feel corporate, polished, and distinctly Chase.
But if you grab a cafecito at that window… maybe it’ll feel just like the city outside.
Maybe.
