Location matters. Here’s why this spot wins

Built around 1910. Originally a bank. The building sits on 17th and Stout in downtown Denver.

Back then that block was the “Wall Street of the West.” Financial hub for the Great Plains. The hotel opened in 95. Ten minutes on foot from Union Station.

Take the A-Line train from the airport. Skip the rental car.

Driving downtown is awful. Park the anxiety with valet if you must. Better to walk. Three blocks to Coors Field. Concerts and the performing arts center are a stroll away. The 16th Street mall is a block away.

I was there for work at Poka Lola. Walked over via 16th Street. Casual. Easy.

Many guests attend conferences at the Colorado Convention Center. It’s right there. The hotel has its own meeting space too. Good for business. Whatever the reason.

Rooms start near $160. Cheaper than most downtown stars.

It’s a Tribute Portfolio brand. That means Marriott Bonvoy points work here. You earn them.

Dual monitor kits are for rent.

Finally. A four-star hotel that gets it. Remote work isn’t new anymore. The business card in the room was the only clue. Good call, Magnolia.

The Room & The Food

I stayed in a king suite. Views of Stout Street and the old Equitable Building.

Plush bed. Walk-in closet that feels like an apartment.

Living space has a table for four. A couch faces the TV. Wet bar with microwave and fridge.

I watched World Cup footage while finishing laptop tasks. Ordered from Harry’s Restaurant on the premises.

The salmon burnt ends?

Crispy. Flavorful. Nearly deep-fried but no grease. Smoked habanero honey on top. Buttery rich.

It’s an appetizer. Comes with caramelized puffed rice. Still felt full hours later.

Paired it with an Aperol Spritz. 4:30 PM counts as happy hour, right?

Fitness and Morning Fuel

Hotel gyms usually suck.

I’m jaded. Years of travel leave you cynical about fitness rooms.

Not here.

8 AM visit. Solid cardio machines. Not much for weights on racks. Plenty of free weights though. Space to move.

Apples in a basket on the counter. Small thing. Nice touch.

The real standout was breakfast back at Harry’s.

Avocado Toast. Toasted Challah bread. Boiled egg. Pickled cauliflower.

Menu description sold me. I didn’t get hungry by 11:30 AM. Right choice.

Felt like I hit my veggie goals. The walls have photos of Denver history. Modern parks. Early Elitch Gardens.

Lobby has free drip coffee.

I topped off the mug before checkout. Felt good about the choice.

Is it the only good hotel in town?

Probably not. But for work trips…

It works.
