New rule. Your Qatar points fly on Philippine Airlines now.
The partnership is live. Mileage earning works. Redemption works too, right on the website. No phone calls. No waiting on hold while they decide if you deserve a seat.
Getting those points is easier than most folks think. Chase, Bilt, Cap1, Citi—dump them into Qatar directly. Stuck with Diners? Route it through British Airways. The bridge is built.
I’ve written for ten years about how Philippine Airlines hoarded good award inventory. Almost nobody could touch it. Supply high, demand nonexistent. A weird vacuum of competition.
That ends today.
Pricing? It’s not cheap. LA to Manila costs 110,00Q points. One way. JFK to Manila jumps to 154,5K. Distance-based, no chart. But look at the taxes. ~$200. For business class across the Pacific. That’s practically free.
Frequency matters too. They fly everywhere:
- LA, twice a day
- SFO, daily
- Honolulu, 5 times a week
- JFK, 3 times a week
- Seattle, 5 times a week
- Chicago, 3 times weekly starting Nov 9
The A350-10 is the killer. Suites. Doors. Privacy. The A3509 is decent. The 777s? Angled seats. Meh. But you don’t pick the plane every time. You pick availability. And right now, the availability is right there.
Most US flyers don’t have Mabuhay miles. ANA stopped letting you book by phone. Alaska Airlines promised a deal, but it isn’t live yet. Maybe better pricing then, who knows. American Airlines partners? Yeah. No redemption though.
Will Philippine Airlines ever join oneworld fully? They partner with AA. Now with Qatar. The writing is on the wall. We’ve been hearing this rumor for seven years though. Still waiting.
Transfer from here:
- American Express
- Bilt
- Capital One
- Citi ThankYou
Or via BA if you use Chase, Wells Fargo, or Diners.
One catch. You need linked accounts. First, last name, DOB, email—exact matches. BA account needs to be older than 30 days. Change your BA email? Transfer lock for seven days. Household members can link, but they can only move their own points. Not a loophole.
Book it while it’s open.
