American Express has introduced a novel airport lounge concept called Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge, now open at Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) in Las Vegas. Unlike traditional lounges designed for long layovers, Sidecar is tailored for travelers with limited time, offering a premium experience for those with flights departing within 90 minutes.

A Faster, More Focused Lounge Experience

The launch in Las Vegas is significant as it’s where American Express first established its Centurion Lounge network in 2013. Sidecar differentiates itself through a sleek, stylish design featuring brass accents and desert-inspired colors. It’s intentionally smaller – just 1,500 square feet with 33 seats – and eschews the typical buffet-style service. Instead, guests order from a chef-curated menu via QR codes or staff, with dishes prepared to order in approximately eight minutes.

Key differences from standard Centurion Lounges:

  • Shorter Access Window: 90 minutes before departure, compared to three hours.
  • No Self-Service: No buffet, coffee bar, or self-serve drinks.
  • Streamlined Menu: Seasonal offerings rotated monthly, emphasizing quick service.

This approach addresses a clear need: many Centurion Lounge visitors spend less than an hour inside. Audrey Hendley, president of American Express Travel, confirmed this insight drove the concept. Sidecar deliberately avoids features like family rooms or showers, prioritizing a fast, high-quality experience.

What’s on the Menu?

The menu focuses on elevated, chef-curated options. Current items include crushed cucumber salad with crispy rice pearls, avocado toast with schug labneh, mushroom and mustard green egg bites, and a signature Sidecar cocktail. The quality is described as surprisingly high for an airport setting.

Access and Location

Sidecar is located near Gate D1 at LAS, tucked away from the main terminal bustle. Access requires one of several American Express cards:

  • American Express Platinum Card®
  • The Business Platinum Card® from American Express
  • Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card
  • Delta SkyMiles® Reserve Business American Express Card

Cardholders must also present a same-day boarding pass with a departing flight within 90 minutes, along with government-issued ID. Guest access is limited unless meeting specific spending thresholds or paying a fee. A digital waitlist is available via the Amex app during peak hours.

“Sidecar provides a premium space for travelers who want to enjoy high-quality food and beverages without wasting time.”

The Bottom Line: Sidecar by The Centurion Lounge fills a gap in the airport lounge market. It’s designed for efficiency, catering to those who value a brief but luxurious experience before boarding their flight. By focusing on quality over length of stay, American Express has created a lounge that aligns with the needs of many modern travelers.
