Airbnb is expanding its services beyond lodging, partnering with Welcome Pickups to allow users to book airport transfers directly through the platform. The move aims to streamline the travel experience, addressing common pain points like unfamiliar cities and unreliable transportation.

Simplifying Travel Logistics

The integration means travelers can arrange private car service immediately after booking accommodation within the Airbnb app. Eligible guests will see the option in their “Trips” tab, allowing them to pre-book transfers for both arrivals and departures. This eliminates the need to search for third-party services, keeping the entire booking process within Airbnb’s ecosystem.

For arrivals, drivers will meet guests with name signs at designated pickup points. Departures will be handled with pick-ups directly from the Airbnb listing. Airbnb cites airport pickups, late-night arrivals, and confusing transport areas as key problems this service solves.

Strong Initial Results

The partnership follows a successful pilot program in 2026 across Europe and Asia, where thousands of guests used the service. The average rider rating was 4.96 out of 5, based on trips taken between January and March 2026. Launch cities included Paris, Bali, and Mexico City, with further expansion planned throughout the year.

Strategic Play for Airbnb

This is more than just convenience; it’s a strategic move. Airbnb is positioning itself as a comprehensive travel planner, reducing friction at the edges of a stay. By handling transportation alongside accommodation, Airbnb can compete directly with platforms that bundle transfers, tours, and other in-destination services.

“Arriving in a new destination should feel exciting, not stressful,” says Alex Trimis, CEO of Welcome Pickups. The partnership leverages Welcome Pickups’ expertise in reliable airport transfers, embedding the service into Airbnb’s existing user flow.

Airbnb’s long-term goal is clear: by controlling more of the travel journey, it reinforces user loyalty and keeps bookings within its platform. The company sees this as just the beginning, suggesting more add-on services are in development.
